I want to try my hand at making my own lures, but not quite sure where to start. Any tips and helpful hints for a beginner?

I've made some bottle cap lures that have been successful.
I used a Long Trail bottle cap because it is Red & White, like a Red Devil, but use whatever makes sense for you. See picture below (also including paracord lures)

    What you need:

    Bottle cap
    Steel BB's or glass beads
Needle nose pliersDrill & Drill bit
    2 small rings
    1 treble hook

    1. Fold the bottle cap in half 3/4 of the way.
    2. Fill the fold with steel bb's or glass beads (they rattle and are an attractant)
    3. Fold the cap completely together so the beads won't fall out
    4. Flatten the very ends
    5. Drill a hole in both ends for a ring to hook to a swivel or line and the other for another ring to accommodate a treble hook
    6. Crimp the barbs on the treble hook - barbs are  overkill for treble hooks
    7. Go fishing!
